To use the Browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace feature when executing browser monitors from private locations, ActiveGate version 1.331+ is required.

The Browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace feature completes the transition of Dynatrace Synthetic to the latest Dynatrace Platform. With the feature activated, Dynatrace executes browser monitors with the latest RUM JavaScript. The feature allows you to:

  • Fully leverage Synthetic Synthetic, including enhanced Requests waterfall chart.
  • Operationalize insights in Notebooks Notebooks and visualize trends in Dashboards Dashboards.
  • Explore synthetic events using Dynatrace Query Language (DQL).
  • Pinpoint bottlenecks and interaction issues with comprehensive, improved Duration metrics.
  • Combine Synthetic and RUM signals to link simulated tests with real user outcomes in Experience Vitals Experience Vitals.
  • Find details for all executions of browser monitors, including those which were repeated because automatic retry on error was switched on.

Also, with the feature activated, Dynatrace reports performance of monitored websites and web applications with the extended subset of performance metrics, including:

  • Duration (recommended as the best representation of user experience).
  • User events duration.
  • User events total duration.

These metrics are available for an entire browser monitor as well as for individual monitor steps. Activating the feature does not stop executions using the classic RUM JavaScript, and the Total duration (classic) metric remains available.

Activate or deactivate browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace

Not applicable to new Dynatrace environments created after January 26, 2026.

You can activate or deactivate the Browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace feature at the following levels:

  • Environment: The feature is applied to all monitors in the environment that are configured to inherit it from the environment level.
  • Monitor: The feature is applied to an individual monitor.
  • When you activate the feature, monitors are executed with both new and classic RUM JavaScript. This means that metrics and events generated with both new and classic RUM JavaScript are ingested into Dynatrace, but no additional costs are incurred. Also, full classic reporting for browser monitors is available in Synthetic Classic Synthetic Classic.

  • Activating the feature makes a new Requests waterfall chart available to you. You are redirected to the chart when you select Analyze executions on the browser monitor reporting page. When the feature is not yet activated, you are redirected to the Multidimensional analysis page in Dynatrace Classic.

  • Once activated, the feature can be easily reverted, either at the environment or individual monitor level. Thanks to the dual ingestion mentioned above, the data continuity is uninterrupted during this process.

Activate or deactivate browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace at environment level

By default, the Browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace feature is deactivated. To activate or deactivate it at the environment level

  1. Go to Settings Settings > Collect and capture > Synthetic Monitoring > New Browser Monitoring Experience.
  2. Turn Enable new browser monitor experience on or off. The change is saved automatically and confirmed in a notification at the bottom of the page.

After you activate or deactivate the feature at the environment level, it's applied to all browser monitors in your environment that are configured to inherit it from the environment level.

To activate or deactivate the feature for individual monitors independently of the environment-level setting, see:

  • Activate or deactivate browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace for new monitor
  • Activate or deactivate browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace for existing monitor

You can configure individual monitors to not inherit the feature from the environment level, which allows you to activate or deactivate it for individual monitors independently of what is set at the environment level (see the sections below).

Activate or deactivate browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace for new monitor

You may opt for gradual adoption of the Browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace feature by activating it only for individual monitors. This approach allows you to control the timing and validate changes before a broader rollout.

You can activate or deactivate the feature for individual monitors when creating and configuring a new browser monitor. The New browser monitoring experience setting is at the beginning of the monitor creation and configuration process, in the General settings section.

  1. Select Override if the monitor is configured to inherit the feature from the environment level.

    • By default, the monitor is configured to inherit the feature from the environment level. For example, if it's activated at the environment level, it is also activated for the monitor. However, you can prevent the monitor from inheriting what is set at the environment level by selecting Override. Then, you can activate or deactivate the feature for the monitor independently of what is set at the environment level. To make the monitor inherit it from the environment level again, select Remove override.

    • You can go to the environment level by selecting Environment Web link.

  2. Turn Enable new browser monitor experience on or off.

  3. Scroll down and select Save. You should see a notification confirming that your changes are saved.

Activate or deactivate browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace for existing monitor

Also, you can manage the Browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace feature for an existing browser monitor.

  1. Go to Synthetic Synthetic.

  2. Optional To filter the table for browser monitors, select Browser under Filter options on the left.

  3. From the list of browser monitors, select the monitor for which you want to activate or deactivate the feature.

  4. Select Edit in the upper-right corner of the monitor overview pane.

  5. Perform steps 1–3 of the Activate or deactivate browser monitors on the latest Dynatrace for new monitor procedure.
