The Jira Service Management Connector Jira Service Management Connector lets you automatically send alerts directly to Jira Service Management (JSM) from Workflows Workflows. When the workflow is triggered, a JSM alert can be created or closed instantly without manual intervention.

This guide is for Dynatrace users who want to automate alert management by connecting Dynatrace to Jira Service Management.

Before you begin

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of Workflows Workflows.
  • Jira Service Management Connector is set up.
  • All necessary permissions to run Workflows Workflows.

Get started with Jira Service Management Connector

Set up a workflow that creates a JSM alert upon trigger.

To set up a workflow with JSM alerting:

1. Set up workflow with a trigger

To set up a workflow and a trigger:

  1. Go to Workflows Workflows and select Workflow.

  2. In the Select a trigger panel, select one of the available triggers.

  3. On the trigger node, select Add task to browse available actions.

Verify the workflow trigger after you complete the workflow with the Jira Service Management action.

2. Set up Send alert action

To set up JSM with Send alert action:

  1. In the side panel, search for the actions for Jira Service Management and select Send alert.
  2. Required Select a preconfigured connection from the Connection dropdown list.
  3. Required Enter a Message that describes the alert. For example: Problem detected by Dynatrace.
  4. Required Select a Priority. Use any of these values: P1, P2, P3, P4, P5.
  5. Optional Enter a State to control how the Dynatrace integration on JSM processes the alert. Use CREATE to create a new alert.
  6. Optional Add Tags to help with filtering and routing in JSM, for example, dynatrace,production.
  7. Optional Enter an Alias to deduplicate alerts in JSM. This is typically an ID, for example, 1234567890.
  8. Optional Add a Note.
  9. Optional Add a Description.
  10. Optional Add Responders to notify a specific JSM team or user, or leave it empty.
  11. Optional Add custom Actions, if they have been set up on Jira Service Management.
  12. Optional Add Extra Properties, to show alongside the alert.
  13. Optional Add an Entity.
  14. Optional Add Custom alert properties.

3. Run to verify workflow

To verify the trigger and the action, execute the workflow by selecting Run. Check the workflow results in the Executions tab. You can also go to your JSM instance to see if the JSM alert was sent or if it was closed.

Congratulations!

You've built a workflow that automatically sends an alert to Jira Service Management whenever it is triggered. The alert appears in Jira Service Management and is routed according to your team's on-call schedules and escalation policies.
