Overview

Get deep insights into the health of all extensions created with the Extensions 2.0 framework, as well as leverage the unified analysis capabilities for your Ops, DevOps, and IT admins.

We collect the data for statistical purposes only; you don't pay additional fees for this process.

Use cases

  • Monitor all used extensions.
  • Monitor created monitoring configurations.
  • Monitor working monitoring configuration endpoints.

Requirements

  • Endpoint monitoring is currently supported by SNMP, WMI, and PROMETHEUS.
  • All monitoring configurations have to use at least ActiveGate version 1.269 and OneAgent version 1.269 to show a proper health state for endpoints.

Activation and setup

Activate the Extensions Health extension using Dynatrace Hub.

Details

The Extensions Health extension comes with two pre-defined dashboards that contain the following sections:

  • Extensions health
    • Extension configuration overview: The honeycomb graph presents the percentage of error states for all configurations per extension for a given timeframe. All the configuration states except for OK and IDLE are classified as errors. Most common errors shows the most common error states. You can find detailed information about the latest error using the Configuration log events section.
    • Extension Execution Controller errors: Detailed information about issues detected in EEC.
    • Extension Resource Consumption: The amount of CPU and memory consumed by all Extensions 2.0 framework processes on the host.
  • Extensions usage: A detailed overview of data points created by extensions, with device breakdown.

After you create a monitoring configuration for the chosen extension, a magnifying glass icon appears in the configuration table. Select this icon to go to the Unified Analysis page for this monitoring configuration.

Feature sets

When activating your extension using monitoring configuration, you can limit monitoring to one of the feature sets. To work properly the extension has to collect at least one metric after the activation.

In highly segmented networks, feature sets can reflect the segments of your environment. Then, when you create a monitoring configuration, you can select a feature set and a corresponding ActiveGate group that can connect to this particular segment.

All metrics that aren't categorized into any feature set are considered to be the default and are always reported.

A metric inherits the feature set of a subgroup, which in turn inherits the feature set of a group. Also, the feature set defined on the metric level overrides the feature set defined on the subgroup level, which in turn overrides the feature set defined on the group level.
