SapMachine

The SapMachine is a Java distribution of the OpenJDK maintained by SAP. See SapMachine.io

SAP JVM is the discontinued product line of Java distributions maintained by SAP.

SAP JVM 6 was discontinued at the end of 2017 and is no longer available. Dynatrace currently provides open-ended support for versions 7 and 8.

IBM JVM

The IBM JVM has its own support timeline, but actual support is based on support of other IBM products. For Dynatrace, the most important product here is WebSphere Application Server (see the WebSphere Application Server on Wikipedia). IBM is committed to supporting WebSphere Platform. For WebSphere Application Server versions 8.5.5 and 9.0.5, there is no planned end-of-support published (see WebSphere Application Server - Support FYI).

IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, Version 8 was released in February 2015 and will continue to receive security updates from IBM until December 31, 2030 (see Java SDK lifecycle dates). Java 11 and later releases are succeeded by IBM Semeru Runtimes.

IBM Semeru

IBM Semeru Runtimes is IBM's supported distribution of OpenJDK paired with the Eclipse OpenJ9 JVM. It succeeds IBM JVM for Java 11 and later versions.

Eclipse OpenJ9 is an open-source JVM that powers IBM Semeru Runtimes. Each Semeru release pairs an OpenJDK update with a specific OpenJ9 build. Eclipse OpenJ9 does not publish standalone OpenJDK distributions — IBM Semeru Runtimes is the IBM-supported way to run workloads on OpenJ9. Dynatrace supports Eclipse OpenJ9 as part of IBM Semeru Runtimes support.

Support and Desupport

JVMs have different support timelines, based on their vendors. Dynatrace is committed to supporting each JVM and version for at least as long as its vendor does and in most cases at least 1 year longer.

See our supported technologies matrix for more details about the supported JVMs.
