Preview

This page describes how the DEM - Retain capability is consumed and billed before and after Preview.

Overview

  • Extended retention for DEM, which includes Real User Monitoring (RUM) and Synthetic data, is currently in Preview. You can request participation in Preview on the Preview program page.

  • Extended retention is currently not available for RUM Session Replay.

The DEM - Retain capability includes:

  • Data availability—retained DEM data is accessible for analysis and querying until the end of the retention period.
  • Retention periods—for DEM data, the available retention period ranges from 35 days to 13 months. During Preview, extended retention can be applied only to standard DEM buckets. Later, custom buckets will become available and DEM retention can be defined at each bucket level, allowing tailored retention periods for specific DEM data.
  • Use cases:
    • Leverage additional retention at reasonable costs.
    • Keep valuable experience data longer for trend- and business analyses.
    • Prepare fraud detection measures.
    • Fulfill regulatory compliance.

Bill DEM-extended retention during Preview

Within the Preview program, we provide DEM-extended retention free of charge for DPS SaaS customers.

Bill DEM-extended retention after Preview ends

After Preview ends, extended retention for DEM data will be billed using a new Digital Experience Monitoring – Retain rate card item. DPS customers with the auto-add included into their contracts will be automatically billed when DEM Extended Retention reaches general availability. Customers without the auto-add need to sign an amendment that includes the Digital Experience Monitoring – Retain rate card item to be able to continue using DEM-extended retention at general availability.

In case you have contractual questions, please reach out to your account executive. These contractual prerequisites need to be settled, otherwise DEM-extended retention will be deactivated at general availability.

Retained data is the amount of data saved to a storage after data parsing, enrichment, transformation, and filtering, but before compression. Data is measured in the last OpenPipeline step before it is stored in buckets. Billed volumes are calculated before compression. The measured size doesn't depend on the data source or protocol. It is calculated per gibibyte-date saved in the storage (GiB-day).

During Preview, Dynatrace doesn't bill consumption for DEM-extended retention.

During Preview and after it, we provide an in-product dashboard that allows you to estimate the usage of DEM-extended retention data on the environment level. This estimation is the basis for anticipating future billing costs. The dashboard is available directly from the DEM launchpad.
